Historical postcard Prague – Recruits, market, V. Bartoňek, Minerva, circa 1900
A historical postcard titled Recruits by V. Bartoněk depicts a busy city market from the Austro-Hungarian period. In the foreground we see a group of young men, new recruits, who have said goodbye to their hometown and are going on military service. On the sides there is a market woman with fresh vegetables and other figures in period clothing. In the background there are characteristic Baroque towers, probably from the Prague Old Town. The postcard is unposted, clean on the back, published by Minerva Prague, no. 1106. A very nice collector's item from the period before the middle of the 20th century, suitable for history lovers and collectors of postcards with motifs of old Prague as well as for those interested in ethnography.
