Postcard – Emperor Joseph II, Deutsch-Horschowitz, 1898, Slovakia
An old postcard with a rare portrait of Emperor Joseph II. (born 13 March 1741 – died 20 February 1790). The postcard was issued on the occasion of the ceremonial unveiling of the monument to Emperor Joseph in Deutsch-Horschowitz (today a Slovak municipality). The obverse features a richly decorated graphic motif, text in Old German and a striking portrait. The reverse is typically divided into a correspondence and address section, with a period postmark and a stamp from Austria-Hungary (Teschen, 1898). The postcard is handwritten and has visible signs of age, which adds to its historical value. A very interesting collector's item with a connection to the regional history of Slovakia before 1950.
